Mr. Chester Ridley

November 18, 1952 ~ July 31, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old


          Chester Ridley was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 18, 1952 to the late Sammie and Mattie Ridley. He was the third child of seven. He was educated in Atlanta Public System where he attended E.R. Carter Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School. He grew up in Eagan Homes on Play Lane and Chestnut Street.

          Chester was known to many as Chetty and later adopted the nickname Pony Tail because of the way he wore his hair. He had a passion for music and was known for his high tenor voice. He created a couple of groups with his childhood and neighborhood friends. Where he later went on to perform background vocals for Dottie Peoples and several other musicians.

He worked for Wellons Auto for over 20 years as an auto mechanic and was also known for his delicious bar-b-que where he would serve from his very own “Grill On Wheels”. He loved to fish, party and crack jokes.

Chester was preceded in death by his mother Mattie, his father Sammie his older brother Herman, his sister Loretta Strickland (Waymon) and his adoptive son Kenneth Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sisters Persita Taylor, Lana Dabney and Lisa Ridley, his brother Satchel Ridley (Bridgette), two daughters LaChante’’Shun’’ Strickland and Chestdra ‘’Shyae’’ Brown, sons Chester’’Apple’’ Strickland and Wanquado “Fella” Brown, Step kids Kim, Shanda, Spanky, and BaeBae, four grandsons Jordan Brown, Antonio “Kendrae” Thornton, Aidan and Ayson Strickland and one granddaughter Auria Strickland, a host of nieces and nephews, and brother- in- law Waymon Strickland. Chester leaves a legacy that will carry on through his children and grandchildren throughout time. He will always be remembered for his soulful voice, comedic personality, and master chef cooking.
