Mr. Freeman Carter

January 23, 1931 ~ August 17, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old


Freeman Carter, one of fifteen siblings, was born January 23, 1931 to the late Dan and Bessie Carter, Philadelphia, Mississippi (Neshoba County). He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. His five surviving siblings are Emma Ree Wess (Reverend Lindburg Wess), Walterine Denmark (Dr. Robert Denmark), Philadelphia, Mississippi, Johnnie Ruth Cottrell (William), Chicago, Illinois, Floyd Carter (Gertha), Moss Point, Mississippi, Billie Earl Carter (Monica), San Jose, California. He also leaves five sisters-in-law, Clara Carter, Jackson, Mississippi, Eunice Pinskton, Forest, Mississippi, Virginia Morgan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia Carter, and Kathy Carter, Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Freeman shared a special bond with his parents’ and family. Because of their spiritual guidance, he accepted Christ at a very young age and joined Providence Baptist Church.

He received a formal education from Philadelphia, Mississippi Public School District (Neshoba County). He subsequently relocated to Orange County, Florida and attained vocational education credentials from Orange County Vocational School, Orlando, Florida.

Freeman was happily married to Joann Gardner Carter, a prominent citizen, who departed life, April, 1986.  They were blessed with six children; Ore Nell Carter McMillon, Jerry Carter, Hilda Carter (deceased), Franklin Carter, Mitchell Carter and Danny Carter (infant deaths).  Freeman was a loving, devoted father, very supportive of his children and their accomplishments. He was a devoted member of Saint John Baptist Church, Altamonte Springs, Florida. 

Employed by the City of Winter Park, Florida’s Water and Sanitation Department and Orange County Public School System, Freeman rendered 36 years of dedicated services before retirement. After retirement, he relocated to his native home, Philadelphia, Mississippi and was a devoted, active, member of Providence Baptist Church.

He enjoyed wrestling, fishing, hunting, and riding his Four Wheeler. Most of all, he enjoyed the Television Oldies, “In The Heat of The Night, “and “Texas Ranger.”

Freeman will forever be remembered as a kind, friendly, devoted father and hardworking family man. Surrounded by his family, he was called to his Heavenly Home, August 17, 2016 while hospitalized at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving, devoted, daughter and caregiver, Ore Nell Carter McMillon, Jonesboro, Georgia, supportive son, Jerry Carter (Cathy), Orlando, Florida, loving son Franklin Carter, Macon, Georgia, 25 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Of special mention are his grandchildren, Nicole McMillon, Jonesboro, Georgia, Phillicia McMillon, Woodbridge, Virginia, Antonio Bouey, Altamonte Springs, Florida, Lauren Thomas, Orlando, Florida, and Tedra McCloud, Apopka, Florida. He shared a special bond with his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and dear friends. Freeman’s legacy will live through the many lives that he positively impacted.
