Welcome to the memorial page for

Mrs. Eleanor Quinn Dunlap

April 9, 1925 ~ October 5, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

On Wednesday evening, October 4, 2017 Eleanor Quinn Dunlap passed away at the age of 92 years.  A native of Dalton, GA, she was the third born child of John and Lottie Mae Quinn on April 9, 1925.

She and her husband, the late Reverend Kay M. Dunlap II, made the move to Atlanta in 1953, where she began her career in education, devoting thirty years of commitment to A. D. Williams Elementary School as a phenomenal teacher.  Along the way she attained a Bachelor in Education from Clark College and a Masters in Early Childhood Development from Atlanta University.  She firmly believed that every child has the ability to learn and the impact she had on the lives of those she touched will forever be remembered.  Unlike many in her craft Miss Dunlap had the opportunity to work her magic in the community she lived in. She quietly gained a national reputation for teaching kindergarden children how to read. People  came from all over the state and nation to observe, copy, and refine her methods for teaching young children how to read. She was often referred to as the "Savior of her Community" by her peers, and during the drug invasion of the black neighborhoods in the eightys and ninties you did not sell drugs in front of or around Miss Dunlap's house.

Known by many as Aunt Eleanor and many more simply as Mrs. Dunlap, Eleanor is survived by her two children, a son, Kay M. Dunlap III and a daughter, Laurice D. Harris, a grandson, John W Harris Jr., a great grandson, Micah J. Harris, a sister, Kathleen Hilson and several nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held for Eleanor on Wednesday, October 11, at 11:00 am at St. John A.M.E. Church in East Point, GA.
