Cleo Wilmington, 84 of Buckhead, Georgia, passed away surrounded by his family on October 7, 2017. He was born the second oldest child of 10 to Seymore and Mabel L. Lott - Wilmington of Grenada, Mississippi on March 13, 1933. The family migrated to Ravenna, Ohio in 1947. Cleo attended Ravenna public schools.
Cleo worked at Ravenna Arsenal, Eduro Rubber, City of Akron and Sally Beauty Supply in Morrow, Georgia. Cleo was most notably remembered for being the Owner/Founder of the first African - American owned business in the city of Ravenna, The Ravenna Auto Wash, where his wife and children worked alongside him for many years.
Cleo was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, Boys & Girls Club, Portage County Heart Association and a long - standing member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Cleo relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1988.
Cleo married Ruby Marie O'Neal on June 8, 1952 in Ravenna, Ohio. Their union brought forth five beautiful children. Cleo is survived by his son, Barry (Vivian) Wilmington of Ellenwood, Georgia; daughters: Joyce Cleon Wilmington of Rex, Georgia, Victoria Lin Wilmington - Turner of Kent, Ohio and Linda Wilmington - (Cliff) Hensel of Stockbridge, Georgia. Brothers: Oscar L. Wilmington of Ravenna, OH., Spencer I. Wilmington of Kent, OH., and Howard A. Wilmington of Moreno Valley, CA. Sisters: Jean A. Wilmington - Walker of Los Angeles, CA., Omega Wilmington - Nero of Pomona, CA., and Chenille B. Wilmington of Tustin , CA. He leaves behind six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of in - laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Marie Wilmington of Rex, GA., his daughter, Donna Marie Wilmington of Pompano Beach, Fl., a brother, Van H. Wilmington and sisters: Armelda Wilmington - McIntyre and Hallene L. Wilmington - Armstrong.
