Welcome to the memorial page for

Mr. David Leander James

February 8, 1959 ~ January 2, 2018 (age 58) 58 Years Old

On the cold, blustery morning of February 8, 1959, David Leander James made his entrance into this world entrusted to the care of Reverend John Allen James, Sr (deceased) and Mrs. Emma Lee Cox James (deceased).  He is the sixth (6TH) child born to his parents and the third (3rd) son.

David entered this world on a joyous note, filled with laughter, song, dance and music.  He was extremely energetic and walked at seven (7) months of age.   He delighted all with his fun-loving nature.  Talking was his passion and if you ever met him, he was a friend for life!!! David attended the Atlanta Public Schools and graduated from L. J. Price High School in 1977 where teachers and students learned just as much from him as he did from them.  David had an entrepreneurial spirit and started to create businesses at the age of 8 years old.  His first business was repairing bicycles and then renting them out to the children in the neighborhood.  He then graduated to repairing mini-bikes and lawn mowers, and rented them to customers.   In his early twenties, David worked with Dekalb Concrete Products, where he built curbs, gutters, and catch basins.  He worked there until he sustained injury to his eye and was no longer able to function in his previous capacity.  Due to his entrepreneurial spirit, David became a Construction Contractor and lent his talents to industrial roofing, painting, drywall and even landscaping, where his talents extended to expert tree removal.  But David was not all work and no play.  He played just as hard as he worked.  He was always loyal to his family and friends, and was always attentive to the needs of others.  When his health started to decline, he maintained an upbeat, positive attitude and contagious spirit of hope. He told jokes which he called, “David James’ Famous Dry Jokes”. Even though they were not always funny, they made you laugh anyway.  David TALKED all the time!!! And there was never a dull moment when he was around.

David’s greatest accomplishment was accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and he was not shy about saying so.

On January 2, 2018, another blustery, cold, winter morning, David Leander James was called home from his earthly station to his eternal life.  He leaves to mourn his passing, his siblings: Lynda, Allen, Beverly, Diane, Charles, Marcita, Jimmy (Kimberly), Sonya and Tanya James; nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, former wife Belinda Crittenton and his daughter Jasmine Quiyanna Harris, Aunt Gertrude Raines, cousins and a host of friends.  His parents, Rev., Dr. John A James, Sr. and Mrs. Emma C. James as well as his brother Michael D. James preceded him in death.

We shed tears of sadness because you are no longer in this place but they are also tears of joy because we know that you are now in a better place.

We will miss you King David on this side, but look forward to our grand reunion in the hereafter.   Well done, good and faithful servant.  Well done!!!
