Mr. Lovell Barnett Jr. Obituary

Mr. Lovell Barnett, Jr., affectionally known as “Ross”, the first child of the late Lovell Barnett, Sr., and Mary Ann McTerrell-Barnett, was born on August 18, 1964, in Newark, New Jersey. The family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in the mid-1960s. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, under the leadership of the late Reverend Frank Jones for many years. He moved on from earthly service to his heavenly reward on November 12, 2019.
Lovell received his early education at Sandtown Elementary School, and was a proud graduate of the class of 1983 of Westwood High School in Atlanta, Georgia. While in high school, his extracurricular activities included: the 8th grade basketball team, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Viking Chorale. He went on to further his education at the Art Institute of Technology, where he graduated in 1986.
Lovell married the love of his life, Berlinda Ricks, on September 28, 1990. To this union, four children were born: Alexis Morgan, Lovell III, Andrew, and Timothy.
Lovell was employed as a professional truck driver for many years. During his career, he worked for BFI and Mayfield Dairies.
Lovell’s hobbies included playing the guitar and organizing talent shows during the 1980’s at D.M. Therrell, Frederick Douglass, Feldwood, Lakeshore, and Benjamin E. Mays high schools in Atlanta, Georgia.
Lovell leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Berlinda Ricks-Barnett; daughter, Alexis (Yusaf) Barnett-Abdul-Aziz; three sons, Lovell Barnett III, Andrew Barnett, and Timothy Barnett; nine grandchildren, Kya Mangham, Dequaven Ricks, Detrayvion Barnett, Kaleeyah Barnett, Karielle Abdul-Aziz, Kaamia Abdul-Aziz, Kiyani Abdul-Aziz, Kamari Barnett Stanton, and Lovell Barnett IV, all of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Brian L. Barnett (Nara) of Leesburg, Virginia; one sister, Renee P. Barnett of Atlanta, Georgia; maternal grandmother, Catherine Smith of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; five aunts, Barbara Scott of Decatur, Mississippi, Sylvia Barnett and Mary Haggans, both of Detroit, Michigan, Catherine Wrenn of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Veronica Mason of Newark, New Jersey; one uncle, Kenneth Barnett of Detroit, Michigan; two nieces, Elaine Shagdarjav and Evelyn Barnett; and one nephew, Noah Barnett of Leesburg, Virginia; as well as many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Ricks; mother-in-law, Dorothy Ricks; his maternal grandfather, Lewis McTerrell; and his paternal grandparents, Lee Barnett and Margaret Barnett.
