Welcome to the memorial page for

Mr. Robert Louis Godfrey

October 28, 1944 ~ August 18, 2017 (age 72) 72 Years Old

A loving husband, devoted father, considerate brother, caring uncle, and compassionate friend, Robert Louis (Dump) Godfrey was born on October 28, 1944 to the late Iula and John Will Godfrey, Sr.  He was one of seven children born to this union.

Robert was educated in the Meriwether County School System.  His Christian walk with God began at an early age, when he joined the Sunnyside Baptist Church.  Robert was a spirit-filled person who possessed a deep love for Christ.  He was a regular Bible reader and often quoted the Bible in his conversations.

Robert was blessed with good common sense and wisdom, as he was knowledgeable about many things.  He was a good problem-solver and always seemed to know how things ought to be.  Robert was always willing to lend a listening ear and gave good, helpful advice about life, problems, and situations.  He had great compassion for his nieces and nephews and treated them as if they were his own children.  He was a very supportive, uplifting, and transparent person.  You never had to wonder what Robert’s opinions or thoughts were on a matter, as he always spoke what was on his mind.

Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, fixing things and taking care of animals.  He was employed by Delta Airlines and then by Avery-Dennison of Peachtree City, Georgia, from which he retired in 2004.

Robert was joined in holy matrimony on August 9, 1975 to Elsie Wimbish Godfrey.  To this union, God added two delightful daughters: Tamara Nichelle and Kristy Vernee (who proceeded him in death).  His brother, John Will Godfrey, Jr. also proceeded him in death.

On Friday, August 18, 2017, Robert L. Godfrey heard the voice of Jesus say, “come unto me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”  At which time, he gave up his fight against pancreatic cancer and departed this earthly life.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife and daughter; Sisters: Georgia Ross, of Monticello, Georgia, Eula Mae(Hymon)Wimbish of Gay, Georgia, Mozelle (George) Wimbish of Senoia, Georgia, and Annie (Samuel) Hall of Oglethorpe, Georgia; Brothers: Rolzie C. (Pearlie) Godfrey of Senoia, Georgia and William R. Godfrey of Atlanta, Georgia; Sisters in-law, brother in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
