Mitchell Bettis, age 62, passed away on Friday June 7, 2019 in Atlanta, Ga.
He was born in Tuskegee, AL to Naomi Abney and Preston Bettis Sr, the youngest of seven children. Mitchell received his Bachelor’s degree from Anderson College, where he met and married Naomi Garrison, and Master’s of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity in Washington D.C. While in Washington D.C, he interned at 3rd Street Church of God and it was there where he was ordained. Mitchell’s service in ministry included roles of Assistant Pastor at Emerald Ave Church of God in Chicago, IL, Senior Pastor at 3rd Street Church of God in Kansas City, KS, and Executive Pastor at 34th Street Church of God in Tampa, Fl.
Mitchell had a loving, joyful personality. He was a talented preacher of God’s word. Even in the years following a severe stroke that left him disabled, Mitchell enjoyed hearing and reading God’s Word. He loved his family and greatly cherished time with his children, Miriam and Austin.
Mitchell was preceded in death by parents Naomi Abney and Preston Sr; brothers Curtis, Charles, and Eddie; and sister Alice Jean.
Mitchell is survived by sister Annie Pearl and brother Preston; daughter Miriam and son Austin (Ashleigh) Bettis; and grandchildren Amayah and Amari Bettis.
We grieve the passing of Mitchell’s physical body but celebrate the life he lived and the new heavenly body he has now.
