Major Edward Lamont Fambro

Edward Fambro, 44, was born July 5, 1974, in Griffin, Georgia, and raised in Atlanta.  He was the youngest of three siblings.  He attended Atlanta Public Schools — Minnie S. Howell Elementary School, Crawford W. Long Middle School and he graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in 1992. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years and received the following decorations before receiving an Honorable Discharge: Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 device and National Defense Service Medal.

Edward Fambro began his career with the City of Atlanta Department of Corrections on June 1, 1999.  In 2010, Fambro was assigned to the Inmate Work Detail where he represented the department at Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) meetings and worked closely with the Atlanta City Council districts on special projects. Fambro quickly rose through the ranks being promoted to Sr. Officer in 2013, Sergeant in 2014, Lieutenant in 2015, Captain in 2016 and Major in 2018. During this time, Fambro graduated from the Georgia Command College, Professional Management Program (PMP), The National Society of Leadership and Success and The Accelerate Atlanta Leadership Series.

Major Fambro spearheaded several of the Department’s community initiatives including neighborhood cleanups, tire drives, Clean & Close efforts to eradicate blight throughout the city, cleaning and maintaining the city’s bike lanes, cleaning local parks before and after major City of Atlanta and Atlanta City Council district events, delivery of meals to feed 200seniors twice a week, and the annual Love Our City community improvement campaign.  Major Fambro also played a critical role in coordinating transportation for the homeless to and from the City’s warming centers, as well as managing the delivery of meals and supplies to the warming centers and ensuring the facilities were properly cleaned and restored following adverse weather events.

During Fambro’s tenure with the City of Atlanta Department of Corrections, he received the Team Spirit Award for excellent customer service (2011 and 2017), Award of Recognition (2012 and 2013) and most recently, the Atlanta City Council Special Recognition Award (2019).  He was a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) Georgia Chapter and the Georgia Jail Association.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Department of Corrections, Major Fambro worked for the Georgia Diagnostic Classification State Prison in Jackson, Georgia.  He also was a licensed realtor  with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers.

He and his wife Audrie were married for 20 years and have a nine-year-old daughter, named Emma.  Major Fambro was very active with the PTA at her school and his hobbies included participating in races, playing chess and golf.  Major Fambro resided with his family in Buckhead and attended Buckhead Church for the past 10 years.
