Life Reflections
Andrew Walker was born on March 18, 1944, in Macon, Georgia to the parents of the late Mr. Harry Walker, Sr and Mrs. Grace Turner Walker-Whitby. With his wife, Sophronia Walker by his side, the lord called Andrew home on May 20, 2019. He was the 2nd oldest of five children. As a youth, he spent most of his life in Fort Valley, Georgia with his grandmother and aunts. He received his elementary and most of his secondary education from the Peach County Public School System. Andrew moved to Macon, Georgia in the 11th grade and attended Ballard Hudson High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team, graduating in 1963. After graduating from high school, Andrew enrolled at Fort Valley State College but, shortlyafterwards, he was drafted in the United States Army and served from 1967-1970 in the Vietnam War with an honorabledischarge. After returning home, Andrew re-enrolled at Fort Valley State College where he graduated with a B.S. degree in 1972. In 1982, Andrew joined the Air Force Reserve in Warner Robbins, Ga. After thirteen years of service he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1995.
From 1976-2000, he was employed with the Bibb County Board of Education as an Adult Education teacher. From 2000-2006, he was an instructor at Central Technical College in Macon, GA where he retired in 2006. After retiring, he was employed as a Math teacher at the Cobb County Board of Education.
Andrew was an avid golfer and spent countless hours on the golf course with his brother Harry and friends. He embraced the game of golf at an early age while serving as a caddy at the Fort Valley golf course. Andrew traveled near and far to participatein golf tournaments and received many awards. He was a former member of the Bowden Golf Association. Andrew will be remembered as being somewhat of a quiet individual, but when he spoke everyone knew to give him their undivided attention. He had no problem speaking his mind on any issues, especially politics and education. Andrew believed in staying informed, and kept up with current events that were happening at all levels.
In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his brother Harry Walker, Jr and his step-father Jason Whitby. Andrew will forever live in the heart and memories of his faithful and dedicated wife, Sophronia Walker, He leaves to mourn his first born, Andrew Christopher Walker, a loving daughter, Dana Christina Walker, supportive son, Dennis Walker and his devoted stepdaughters and son- in- law, Ingrid Poindexter, Colonel Eugene Ponidexter and Kandice Lucas. His caring siblings, Jane Meadows (Robert), Janice Lloyd (Andre) and Linda Whitby. Special cousins, that were reared as his brothers, Robert Drake (Janae) and Charles Drake Sr. (Sonya). His pride and joy grandchildren; Dynasty, Elijah, Henry III, Kennedy, Taylor and Devante.
Special Friends, Juanita Womack and James Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, golfing buddies, former co-workers and friends.
