Mr. Gary Lamar Mapp was born April 21, 1958, to the proud parents of the late Johnnie Mapp, Sr., and Sarah Frances Mapp. The youngest of seven siblings, his love for family knew no bounds. When you saw Gary, he always had that bountiful smile and laughter that only he could make. At an early age, he joined Silver Leaf Baptist Church. Gary was known for going to sleep by laying his head against church pew.
As a child, Gary and his siblings grew up
in the historic neighborhood known today as Kirkwood. Gary and his siblings were raised in a loving Christian home, where we were taught the importance of true family love and trust in God. We also had the privilege to experience a priceless sense
of community, love, and support.
Gary received his primary education at Whiteford Elementary School. His secondary education took place at J. C. Murphy High School.
Gary made his transition from his earthly home to his eternal dwelling on March 17, 2021. Gary leaves to cherish his memories: three loving sisters, Mrs. Idella Edwards, Mrs. Carol Minis, and Mrs. Sharon (Pastor Bankole) Akinmola; two brothers, Mr. Johnny (Helene) Mapp, Jr., and Mr. Leroy Mapp; nieces and nephews, Mrs. Danza (Michael) Kemp, Tanika (Arvin) Richard, Mr. Bankole (Juliett) Akinmola II, Ms. Falon Minis, Ms. Heidi Mapp, Mrs. Olatoyin “Toyia” (Danich) Alonge, Mr. Adreion “Darell” Rice, and Leroy Mapp, Jr.; and a host of cousins and friends.
