Mr. Jimmie Lee Brown Sr. Obituary

Mr. Jimmie Lee Brown Sr. was born on March 10, 1938 to the late John Adam Brown and late Johnnie Mae Brown in Columbus, GA.  He was the 2nd of five children. On Tuesday January  5, 2021 Jimmie received his heavenly wings.

He attended school in Columbus, GA.

Growing up on a Mill Pond Farm in Stewart County, GA his family taught him self-sufficiency. While working on this farm as a child his duties included grinding the corn for customers, helping his dad to sell vegetables, selling peanuts to Tom Houston Peanut Company, and shaving the ice for the icees that everyone loved.  Jim, (as so many knew and called him) purchased Blue Ribbon Sugar Cane seeds (the best as he said) from New York; grew them; then sold and shipped them back by train. The money from those Sugar Canes afforded him the privilege of making a cash purchase of his first new car. Being ambitious and innovative, he was always known to be the first to purchase new technological equipment  such as stereos and TVs.

Jim later met the woman whom he would marry Katie Mae Crawford; they married on April 18, 1958 and to this union they had four children. They moved to Atlanta, GA where they raised their family.

Jim was a man who wore many hats; he helped build Walden Middle School (construction supervisor), worked at a car lot, build bar-b-cue pits, loved to bar-b-cue, but the one thing he loved the most and was self-taught was being a mechanic.  Everybody including the God Father of Soul James Brown knew to take their car to him to be repaired.

He leaves his five children to cherish his memory, Celestine Brown Williams, Jimmie (Ethel) Brown, Jr., Dorothy Brown, Theris (Lody) Pointer, and Theresa Wallace; two sisters Bessie Nobles and Junita White; two brothers-in-law Robert Lee Crawford and Joe Lewis Crawford; two sisters-in-law Gwendolyn Crawford and Dorothy Crawford; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Katie Mae Brown, his parents, and two brothers Curtis Brown and William Brown.

Sleep in peace Jim, dad, granddad, Uncle Jim! We will see you on the other side.
