Mr. Kevin Johnson Obituary

Kevin Lynn Johnson, affectionately known as “Knots,” was born in Alliance, Ohio, on January 15, 1955, to the late Eddie Johnson, Sr. and Minnie Fountain Johnson. He departed this life on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his residence in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Kevin had been a lifelong resident of Alliance until he moved to Georgia in 2014. He was 69 years of age at the time of his passing.

Kevin was educated in the Alliance City School District. He attended Franklin Elementary School, Stanton Jr. High School, and Alliance High School. While at Stanton, he played guard for three years on the basketball team. Kevin earned his G.E.D. in 1991 and attended Cuyahoga Community College. For many years, he worked at Whitacre-Greer Fireproofing Company, better known as “The Brickyard.”

Kevin was often described as a tall, lanky, handsome guy who loved to be “well- dressed, well-pressed, and smelling good.” He was also described as a quiet, very private person who did not easily share his thoughts and feelings with other people. In the 2000’s, Kevin was baptized at New Zion Baptist Church in Alliance, Ohio, by Rev. Richard Scarborough. Throughout his life, Kevin was known as an excellent cook who loved to experiment with new recipes and different spices. In fact, his cooking skills led to employment at several restaurants as a short order cook. He also loved to “tinker” and was never afraid to take on the challenge of building or repairing anything from a car to a washing machine, even though he sometimes had extra parts left over. Kevin was a serious TV fan who liked to watch movies, cartoons, and the old Westerns like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. He was also a huge music fan who loved jazz, old school R & B, and Motown. Frankie Beverly and Maze were among his favorite singing groups.

Kevin is survived by his significant other, Patricia Jenkins of Stone Mountain, Georgia; sister, Cynthia Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Lanesha Dozier of Canton, Ohio, Menaae Johnson, Brion Johnson, Earnest Metcalf, and Edward Metcalf-Johnson of Alliance, Ohio, Tyson Dailey of New Braunfels, Texas, and Robert Wallace of South Carolina; Francie Taylor of Alliance, Ohio, who played a significant role in his early life; as well as extended family and friends.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Eddie Johnson, Sr.; sister, Mary Parhams; brothers, Edward Johnson, Jr. and Robert Johnson; niece, Kayla Johnson-Townes; and nephews, Nathan Johnson, Robert Johnson II, and Anthony Paul Robert Johnson.
