Obituary

Marcus James Gunn
Marcus was born on September 19, 1997, to Maurice Gunn and Steffanie Goldy in Billings, MT.
Marcus grew up in Billings and spent a lot of time during his early years with his sister Maurissa and
cousins Malek and Jade, the “Core Four”, under the care of his Granny Anita and Grandpa Emmo.
Marcus attended Eagle Cliffs Elementary School, Laurel Middle School, and Laurel High School. Marcus
graduated from Laurel High School where he played varsity basketball, winning a state championship his
senior year. Although he had a love for basketball, Marcus loved and excelled in all sports. His favorite
professional athlete was the “Black Mamba”, Kobe Bryant. He also enjoyed talking and watching the
Steelers with his dad, who from birth instilled Steeler Nation in him. In addition to sports, Marcus had a
deep love for music, even spending time in high school making his own songs, which he would share
amongst his close family and friends. In recent years, Marcus had caught the travel bug from his mom and
had plans of visiting the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico this year. The ocean was his happy place.
He recently visited the beaches of Miami and Mexico with his long-term girlfriend, Yen, with whom he
cherished their time spent together. Being from Montana, of course Marcus loved the outdoors and the
time spent fishing and camping with his stepfather Wade.
Post high school Marcus attended Portland State University and the University of Montana where he
studied business. In late 2020 Marcus moved to Atlanta, the big city, to be near his sister and best friend
Maurissa. They were inseparable.
For the past few years Marcus worked alongside his uncle David and cousin Tyray. Together they
managed Top Gunn Logistics. Marcus deeply cared about his work and took pride in running a successful
company. As a coworker and friend Marcus worked with the whole team collaboratively. He was a joy to
work with, was always friendly and willing to help anyone. He was respected and loved by his team and
his peers. Marcus was always ambitious and regularly set goals for himself such as wanting to improve
his physical fitness (he swore he was going to get swoll) and increase his yearly income (in true Gunn
fashion, he was about his money).
Marcus was passionate about fashion, family, and friends. He loved eating out and trying different
restaurants on the weekend with Maurissa, and “driving thru” his aunt Janelle and uncle David’s house to
pick up dinner on his way home from work. If you knew Marcus, you loved Marcus. He was always
smiling. He lit up any room he entered with that enormous smile and endearing dimples. He valued
family above all else. He was always attentive to all the little cousins playing with them and making them
laugh. No matter the occasion, he would tell everyone he loved them when he left any gathering. Marcus
was a genuinely good person who made a remarkable impact during his time with us.
Marcus was predeceased by Cheryl Tryan and Kelly Gunn. He is survived by his parents Maurice Gunn,
Stephanie Goldy (Wade), his grandparents Emmitt and Anita Gunn, and Dan and Bobbie Tryan, his
sisters Maurissa, Alexis and Jameea and brothers Rylan and EJ, and cousins who were like his brother
and sister Malek and Jade, as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Marcus went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2023
