Mrs. Elizabeth Matilda Slay was born on April 7, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late William Ellis and Elizabeth Ellis Griffin. She was born at Grady Memorial Hospital, beginning a life rooted deeply in the heart of Atlanta. Elizabeth, affectionately known as "Tillie," was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools System and later dedicated more than 30 years of faithful service working within Atlanta Public Schools. She was committed to her work and touched many lives throughout her years of service.
She was a woman full of life, joy, and style. Tillie loved modeling and took pride in dressing beautifully. She had a special love for fashion and was known for her elegant outfits and the confidence with which she wore them. She loved to laugh, dance, and have fun. Her personality could light up any room. For many years, she was a devoted member of Simpson Street Church of Christ, where she faithfully worshiped and served. Tillie was united in marriage to J. C. Slay. From this union, they were blessed with one son, Victor Slay, who preceded her in death in 2019.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her devoted sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Murray, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Her legacy of love, laughter, faith, and style will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
