Mrs. Evelyn Marie Stoner Obituary

Evelyn Marie Stoner was born July 12, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late E. W. Washington and Catherine Washington. She was the second of four children. Her sister, Lenora Carney, and brother, Anthony Washington, preceded her in death, and the last surviving brother is Gordon
Scott Washington.
Evelyn Marie Stoner attended South Eastern High School and graduated from Detroit Business Institute, majoring in computer science and data entry. Evelyn Marie enjoyed a variety of different music types, had
a beautiful singing voice, and was also an avid movie collector and trivia player.
Evelyn Marie confessed her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined The Center for Discovery Church under the leadership of Rev. Anne Hamlett.
Evelyn Marie made her transition on February 3, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, David Washington; daughter-in-law, Latosha Washington; her life partner, Lawrence Cook; five grandchildren, Crystal Alyse Preston, Justen David Washington-Jude, Deja Mason, Brianna Mason, and Kinsley Alexandria Washington; six great-grandchildren, Cali, Alyse, Kalab, Anyala, Justen, and Aliyah; three nieces, Virginia Durham, Nichol Foster, and Ciara Cravens; two nephews, Greg Cravens and Nigel Foster, and their children; two first cousins, Barbara Day and Deborah Lindsay; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Evelyn Marie relocated to Stone Mountain, Georgia, to be closer to her son, David, and to escape Michigan’s cold weather. There she continued her work in business and with Toys for Tots. Anyone who knew Evelyn Marie, understood that she had a passion for giving motherly advice and emotional support to so many.
Evelyn Marie made sure you ate. She loved to barbecue and cook big Sunday dinners, keeping family together, sitting around the table. If you were in need, Evelyn Marie made sure that she would find a way to help.
As a big sister, auntie, grandmother, and so much more to so many, Evelyn Marie’s devotion to humbly support her family and friends was unparalleled. She would come to Michigan to support and celebrate her family. Evelyn Marie was a loving mother. She adored her son, David Washington, and made certain that everyone knew how proud of him she was. She enjoyed and looked forward to the long telephone calls with her grandson, Justen David Washington, and would often talk about how happy he made her feel.
