Mrs. Gwendolyn Flora Hunter Obituary

Gwendolyn Flora Hunter was born on July 9, 1957 in The Bronx, New York to Samuel Calvin Hunter, Sr and Rainey Mea Hunter (Burns).

Raised as the youngest of seven children, Gwendolyn was educated in the New York City Public School System, where she achieved honors and pursued a passion for playing the violin. Her favorite composers were Beethoven and Haydn. Gwendolyn also participated in her high school Drama Club, her favorite play being "A Raisin In The Sun".

After graduation, Gwendolyn matriculated at Suffolk Community College and held a variety of positions along the east coast.

Gwendolyn was an avid tennis player and fan - a passion she enjoyed since childhood. She never missed watching the Australian Open, French Open, U.S. Open and Wimbledon. She was known for her loud screams of joy whenever Arthur Ashe or The Williams Sisters would win a match.

Gwendolyn was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.  She especially adored spending time with her grandchildren and did not let a day go by without expressing her love for them.

Most importantly, Gwendolyn loved the Lord Jesus Christ. This love was instilled in her at an early age by her parents. Gwendolyn was raised in the Church of God In Christ and believed in the principles of holiness and sanctification.  Her life was an example of the scripture, Matthew 22:37: " Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"

Gwendolyn peacefully departed this life on the morning July 4, 2021. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Adam Gerran Bernard Hunter and Genet Almaz Toles (Ronald).

Gwendolyn will also be fondly remembered by her two grandchildren, Josiah and Brielle; by her siblings, Diedre Hunter, Claudette Jones, George Alvin Israel (Barbara) and Carol Bland (Haywood). Gwendolyn will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, extended family and caregivers.

Gwendolyn was predeceased by her father Samuel Calvin Hunter, Sr; her mother Rainey Mae Hunter Dillard, her brothers Samuel Calvin Hunter, Jr and Irving Bernard Hunter.

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love". ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
