Selenia Craig Griffin Dent, graced this world September 28, 1945, to John Craig, Sr. and Eva Lee James Craig in Dougherty County, both who proceeded her in death. On the beautiful fall morning of November 6, 2023, God called her home.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Arcadia Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She was educated in Dougherty County Schools, where she was a stellar student athlete. She excelled in both track/field and basketball. She graduated Monroe High School in 1963 receiving a basketball scholarship. bowler
In 1964, she married her high school sweetheart Charlie Griffin, and three children were born from this union Charles, Valeria, and Tracie. In 1987, she married Rev. Benjamin F. Dent and later divorced.
Selenia was an activist during the Civil Rights movement, protesting in Albany, GA with Dr. Martin Luther King.
Years later she returned to Albany State College and received her Bachelor’s degree in 1989 and later received her Master’s degree. She was an active member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority until her health declined. Also, an avid bowler, bowling in several tournaments. She was sassy and kept her attire classy. She was employed with Harlem Cut Rate Drug Store, Gayfers, and Albany State University where she retired in 2006. More than anything, Selenia was fierce, strong, and courageous to the end.
Selenia was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Murrie Lee Craig, John Craig, Jr., Carolyn Craig McKinney, and Fred Craig; daughter, Tracie Griffin Richardson; grandson, Jamaal Rashaad Outler.
She leaves to continue her legacy two children: Charles Griffin of Valdosta, GA, Valeria (Christopher) Walker of Conyers, GA; Son-in-law, Christopher Richardson of Brooklyn, MD; Grandchildren, Serena Richardson and Mikayla Richardson of Brooklyn, MD, Marcus (Atiyya) Outler of Jonesboro, GA, Maya Seals of Fairburn, GA, Michael Cullen and Cametria Coleman of Albany, GA, Charles Griffin, Jr., and Craig Dozier of Summerville, GA, Diamond, Quinton, and Christian Walker of Conyers, GA, Aja and Chris (Alexis) Walker of Albany; Great-grandchildren, Emanyei, Eddie, and Elijah Streeter, Michael Cullen, Jr., and Kaiden Walker of Albany, GA, Amirra, Aniyah, and Akeem Outler, Zahiry Seals and Cevyn Merritt of Fairburn, GA; Brother-in-law, David McKinney, Sr.; Sister/Cousins, Gloria “Cookie” Weeks, Linda Jackson, and Cathy (Jim) Rush, of Albany, GA; Sister/Friend, Frances Scott of Riverdale, GA; Goddaughters, Crystal English of Jonesboro, GA, Deidra Goodman of Valdosta, GA and Toni L.
