Bessie Jackson was born the eldest daughter of Barzlious and Mary Jackson on November 26, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama. Bessie transitioned to heaven on ......
Bessie had a gentle spirit, a huge heart and a million-dollar smile framed in red lipstick. She was a proud mother, doting grandmother, dutiful daughter, loving sister, and fierce friend. A graduate of Miles College, Bessie built a career in front-facing customer service. She never met a stranger, and she never judged. People loved visiting and talking with Bessie, “she had the ability to make you feel like you were the only person in the room.” Bessie’s soft-spoken words of encouragement were coupled with tears of sincerity when she acknowledged others’ accomplishments. Her admiration had no expectations. She loved to laugh and dance; she made the very best Thanksgiving dressing. If asked, she would say her proudest accomplishment was the unbreakable bond she shared with her son, Derrick. She was filled with pride and joy for the beautiful life she built for herself and for her family.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Marcellous Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Derrick Mobley; three (3) grandchildren, Deshon Hall, Dequan Hall, Dedrick Hartsfield; two (2) great-grandchildren, Jace Rowe, Dallas Hall; six (6) siblings, Ethella Geter, Theresa Clayton (Tommie), Linda Quarles, Harriet Simmons (Brian), Adrian Bernard Jackson, and Leonard Jackson (Lisa); a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, best friend, Ricky Bradford, and her beloved dog, Bear.
